John H. Correll

The people of Kincaid and vicinity were grieved to learn of the death of J.  H.  Corell, which occurred at his home in Blue Mound last Friday at noon.  Mr. Correll was an old resident of Kincaid and vicinity, moving to Blue Mound about three years ago.  He was a good man and citizen, a good neighbor, and his death is much regretted by his many old friends here.

John Hamilton Correll was born February 26, 1844 in West Virginia.  His earlier life was spent in his father's home on the farm.  When the war began in listed in Co. A, 14th Regiment Virginia Cavalry, C.S.A. and remained in the service until April 9, 1865.  He came to Johnson County, MO., in 1867 and was united in marriage with Mattie E. Hornbuckle, November 3, 1870.  He became a member of the Christian church in 1872.  He moved to Anderson County, Kans., in 1888.  Mrs. Mattie Correll died at her home in Kincaid, Kans., March 4, 1911.  Mr. Correll was united in marriage with Mrs. Carrie Gibbs of Blue Mound, Kans., July 20, 1812 [sic].  he died May 8, 1914 aged 70 years, 2 months and 12 days.

Funeral services were held from the Blue Mound M. E. Church, Sunday at 1 p.m. and were conducted by Rev. Shulenberger of this place.  Burial was made in the Kincaid Cemetery and the service at the grave was conducted by the Odd Fellows fraternity.
