Jas. Airheart died Sunday after an illness of several days. He was confined to his room but a short time though for some years he had not been strong. Jim Airheart was known to scores of people over Barton County and the sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved family. He came to this County in an early day. During the long time he lived here he held many minor offices, city and county and until a short time ago was in charge of the poor farm. He was born 66 years ago in Tennessee and enlisted in the Union Army during the civil war. At the conclusion of the war he married Mrs. Ann Ruble , a widow with two sons, John and Andy, both of whom lived here. To Mr. and Mrs. Airheart were born six children, five of whom are still living. They are Sam and James, Mrs. Spall and Miss Tennessee Airheart of Canton, Ohio. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the late on Lakin and Herzer streets and were conducted by Rev. Selle.
James enlisted in the Confederate Army,
Company D, 5th Regiment in Bradley Co. TN, deserted in Jan. 1862. He then joined
the Union Army, Company L, 1st TN Cavalry. He was promoted to sergeant and
served honorably from Sep. 1862 to June 1865.
He married his first cousin, Louisa Ann Airheart Ruble, a widow, in Sep. 1865.
They moved to Great Bend, KS in the 1870's where James served as town marshal.
