Obit J J McAbee was born March 16, 1836 in Monroe Co., Georgia and
died April 2, 1927 at the age of 91 years and 15 days, at the home of his
daughter, Mrs. Maude Huffman in Pawnee Co., Kansas. After an illness of six
weeks. He enlisted in the Civil War in '61 and served for a period of four years in the
8th cavalry regiment Co., A of Georgia.
He was united in marriage to Sarah Cathryn Kendall on March 6, 1866 in
Nashville, Tenn. To this union were born thirteen children; 11 of whom are
living: Green of Tulare, California, Palmer of Raton, New Mexico, John of Nampa,
Idaho, Will of Trinidad, Colorado, Mrs. Pearl Avendschan of Colorado Springs,
Colorado, Mrs. Maude Huffman of Pawnee Rock, Kansas, Mrs. Anna Steere of
Bearerton, Oregon, Mrs. Ruth Rodda of Gebo, Wyoming, Mrs. Alice Worley of Miami,
Oklahoma, Mrs. Mittie Errington of Raton, New Mexico and Mrs. Effie Sproull of
Kansas City, Missouri. He leaves to cherish his memory the above children and 43
grand children and 19 great grand children and a host of friends.
His good wife preceded him to her eternal home July 4 (6), 1923, also two sons,
Amos who died in 1903 and Walter in 1912.
