URIAH SILVIUS

Uriah Silvius was born in the home of William and Phoebe Silvius near Timberville, Virginia, May 10, 1846, where he grew to manhood. He had five brothers, and one sister. All of them preceded him to the spirit world.

On October 23, 1871, he was united in marriage to Ada 0. Grayson who died in1886. Seven children were born to this union,  two of them dying in infancy.

 The five living are as follows: Mrs. Irene Lueker of Youngstown, Ohio; Mrs. Bessie Brickley of Youngstown, Ohio; Mrs. Grace 0. Baker of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; Mrs. Maggie Phillips of Harrisburg, Virginia, Mrs. Mamie Caldwell of Lyons, Kansas.

In 1884 he moved his family to Herington. On May 10,1888, .he married Elizabeth Brower of Herington, Kansas.

His widow and three children survive--Frank and. Carl of Hope, Kansas, Mrs. C. 0. Kauffman of Abilene, Kansas, twenty-six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He united with the Church of the Brethren in the spring of 1887; called to the deacon's office in 1896 at Dorrance, Kansas. Bro. Silvius and family moved to Dorrance in 1891. After six years residence he moved to Rice county, finally coming to Dickinson county in 1911, living near Navarre at the time of his death, July 13, 1933. He spent a year of service for his country during the Civil War. He was a kind and loving father, husband and friend. He served his church faithfully. He lived to the ripe old age of eighty-seven years, one month and twenty-six days.
