Robert M. Divine was born June 18, 1847 and passed away from this life July 21, 1921. He passed the early years of his life in Tennessee and at about the age of 17 moved with his parents to southern Missouri. While there he was married to Maranda Lacy and to this union were born five children, A. J. Divine, of Fresno, California; Thomas J. Divine of Watson, Utah; Geo W. Divine, of Howard, Kansas; Lee H. Divine of Mobridge, South Dakota; and one child dying in infancy.
On February 10th, 1876, this wife and mother was called to the Great Beyond and on January 20th, 1877 he was married to Louisa J. Cox, and seven children came to bless this home: Elbert S., of Thermopolis, Wyoming; Rena J. Hill, of Harper, Kansas; John F., of Thermopolis, Wyoming; Anna Baughman, of Howard, Kansas; Alice Newton, of Ringwood, Oklahoma; and James R. Of Howard, Kansas; and Amanda Palmer, who died on November 5, 1918.
While a young man he became a Christian and united with the Missionary Baptist church of Lamar, Missouri.
After some months illness, Louisa E. Divine passed away, on August 30, 1919.
He moved with his family to the neighborhood north of Howard in the year 1896 and lived there until about three years ago, when he moved to Howard.
After moving to Howard, he united with the First Baptist church. His going came as a fulfillment of an oft expressed desire that he might pass quickly and quietly on when his Master called him.
“Uncle Bob” was loved and respected by everyone.
The funeral services were held at the First Baptist church, Saturday morning, July 23, 1921, at 10:30, and were conducted by his pastor, Rev. Frank L. Rose. A large crowd was present and followed his remains to Grace Lawn Cemetery, where he was buried in the family lot.
