Obituary
James M. Sooter was born in Benton County, Tennessee, November 18, 1830.
He moved to Berry County, Missouri, where he was married to Margaret Sturdy.
They came to Kansas in 1884 and settled in Moline in 1885, where they resided until 1887, then moving to Grenola. Mrs. Sooter died February 1912. Mr. and Mrs. Sooter were the parents of seven children, four daughters, and three sons. Of these, three are living. They are Mrs. Sarah Keys, and William, and Jonah Sooter all of Grenola. Mr. Sooter united with the Methodist Episcopal Church South in 1882 and in January 1908 he united with the Methodist Episcopal church in Grenola. He was an honored member of this church until called to his reward. Mr. Sooter died at the family home in Grenola Kansas, August 20, 1912. He was 81 years, 8 months and 14 days.
Funeral services_were conducted at his late home on Saturday afternoon August 3. E. G. Coons pastor of the M. E. Church officiated. Interment was made in Green Lawn cemetery. The family has the sympathy of a large circle of friends.
