OBITUARY

French Flury Singleton, the son of William and Margaret Singleton, was born May 16, 1844, at Sutton, W. Va., and departed this earthly life April 3, 1924, at his home in Winchester, Kansas, age 79 years, 10 months and 17 days.
He served three years in the Civil War, with the 62nd Division of mounted infantry from Virginia.
His regiment was called upon several times to act as General Lee’s bodyguard.
After the Civil War was over he came west and became a tiller of Kansas soil.
He was united in marriage to Susan Ann Wise, October 14, 1876, at the bride’s home, Frederick Wise, one mile east of Winchester, whose farm he now owns. To this union were born nine children. His wife and two sons, Walter, of Winchester, and Lee, of Liberty, still survive. With the exception of one year in Barton county, Mo., Mr. Singleton and his family have lived in Jefferson county.
He was a man that believed that "Honesty was the best policy" and that "Truth would never go unrewarded."
"In every pant that rends the heart
The Man of Sorrows has a part.
He sympathized in grief
And to the sufferer sends relief."
