Obituary: Balaam Teter.
Balaam Teter, was born in Pendelton county, W. Va., November 30, 1837, and departed this life October 29, 1929, at the home of his daughter Mrs. S. E. Hinkle, of Garnett; age, ninety-one years, eleven months and two days.
He grew to manhood in Pendelton county and was married to Mary Jane Warner October 18, 1859. Of this union eleven children were born, two dying in infancy. He leaves to mourn his death four sisters and the follow nine children: Harrison Teter, Sarah Hinkle, Bethany Cassel, Laura Teter and Kenny Teter, of Garnett; Priscilla Hevener, Lawrence; Mary Weaver, Topeka; Patrick Teter, Atwater, 0., and Charity Newcomb,Rexrode, W. Va.; also sixty-five grandchildren and a large number of greatgrandchildren. His wife preceded him in death in 1912.
He was a Civil war soldier, enlisting in 1861, and was wounded at Gettysburg, and was discharged and sent home. He came to Kansas in the spring of 1900, and has made this state his home since.
Funeral services were held Thursday October 31st. at 10 o'clock at the former United Brethren, conducted by Rev. L. H. Rupert, pastor of the Methodist church. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. B. W. Cooke, Mrs. W. E. Bates, George Spindler and M. L. Allen, accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Florence Kirkpatrick. Burial was at Parker.
