Meade County Globe
January 12, 1899
Dennis Callahan died at the Meade Hotel Sunday last and was buried the following afternoon in Graceland cemetery. Mr. Callahan's disease was pneumonia and he was sick about ten days. During that time he had the best medical treatment and all that friendly hands could do was cheerfully done to alleviate his sufferings. Mr. Callahan could not be made to believe that he was near death's door and a few hours before his death, he arose from his bed and partly dressed himself. He had no relatives here at the time of his death. His two sons live at Pleasant Home, Ky., and were notified of the death of their father, but could not come. Mr. Callahan was about 60 years old, a man, quiet and friendly, in disposition and well liked by everybody who knew him and it is with sorrow the friends of Uncle Dennis bid adieu to his physical form and consign it to mother earth. But the real body is not there it has arisen to a higher birth and is alive forever more.
